Programme for the Duomo: The list of events has been taken from the"VII centenary of the Duomo by FI, Calendaro of Religious and CulturalEvents"



SEPTEMBER

Sat. 7th: Issue of commemorative Stamp by the Italian Postal Service.

Sun. 8th: Inauguration of the centenary year.
7.30pm Free guided visits around the Cathedral and the Opera del Duomo, offered(until 9.30pm) by volonteers from the A.G.T.-FIRENZE Tourist Guide Association inItalian, English, French and Spanish. Volonteers from the Accoglienza Ars etFides/Santa Maria del Fiore will instead be offering a free tour with commentaryaround the interior of the Cathedral from 9.30pm to 11.30pm,.
9pm Floodlighting of the Cathedral and Baptistery, tour around the interior ofthe illuminated Duomo and "The visions of di Santa Maria del Fiore" exhibition ofpainting in the Square.

Concert of the Rossini Band.

Sun. 15th: Concert in the Cathedral: Stabat Mater by G. Rossini, Choir of SantaMaria del Fiore. Conductor: Mons. Luigi Sessa.

Fri. 20th: First performance of "La Cupola", a play by A. Novelli. Teatro dellaPergola (other performances: 21st,22nd,24th,25th,26th).

Thurs. 26th: at 5.45pm. Presentation of "Opera. Character and role of the citybuildings up until the beginning of the Modern era", a book by M. Haines and L.Riccetti. Chapter House of Santa Maria del Fiore, Piazza del Capitolo.


OCTOBER

Sat. 12th: Day of Study for Tuscan pastoral operators, organized by the TuscanEpiscopal Conference with the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore: "The testimony ofstone: cathedrals, sanctuaries, historic churches in the catechesis". SeminarioArcivescovile, Aula Magna, Lungarno Soderini 19, 9.15am-1pm/3-6pm.


NOVEMBER

Thurs. 14th: Opening of the convention on "Religious areas: sites and movements",organized by Stanford University (USA) with the Florentine Theological Studio andthe Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore. Baptistery at 5.45pm. Speeches by theauthorities and an introductive report by Prof. Don Timothy Verdon on "The areaof Santa Maria del Fiore: sites and movements".

Fri. 15th: Second day of the Convention. Palazzo Medici Riccardi, Sala delleStagioni, 9.15am-1pm/3-6.30pm

Fri. 14th: Convention on the Architecture of Santa Maria del Fiore, organized byHarvard University Graduate School of Design, at the faculty in the UnitedStates.

Tues. 25th: Concert of religious music.

Sun. 30: Easter Mass, with the Explosion of the Fire Cart, at 10.30am.


APRIL

Sat. 19th: Symposium on the recent restoration of the Cathedral, organized by theBoard of Cultural Assets and the Opificio of the Pietre Dure, together with theOpera of Santa Maria del Fiore. RondÚ di Bacco, Pitti Palace. 9am-1pm/3-6.30pm.

Thurs. 24th: "Santa Maria del Fiore in the Europe of Cathedrals", Sixth series on"Rediscovering Piazza del Duomo ". Baptistery of Florence at 5.45pm.


MAY

Thurs. 8th: "Santa Maria del Fiore in the Europe of Cathedrals", secondconference in the series on "Rediscovering Piazza del Duomo". Baptistery at5.45pm.

Tues. 13th: Illustration of the frescoes in the cupola organized by the Order ofthe Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. The talks will be held in the Cathedral, withphotos and slides, by representatives from the Board of Cultural Assets, theOpificio and the Cathedral clergy. The morning will be reserved for students fromthe High Schools of Florence, the evening for the general public.

JUNE

Thurs. 5th: Convention on "Sculpture at Santa Maria del Fiore" organized by"Villa I Tatti" (Harvard University Center for Renaissance Studies) with the NewYork University (Villa la Pietra), and with the collaboration of the Opera ofSanta Maria del Fiore. Villa I Tatti, Via di Vincigliata 26, Fiesole,9am-1pm/3-6pm.

Fri. 6th: Second day of the Convention on "Sculpture at Santa Maria del Fiore".Villa I Tatti, as above.

Fri. 13th: Opening of the exhibition on the ancient choir in the Cathedral,prepared by Harvard University Graduate School of Design, with a model built bythe Facolty of Architecture of Florence University. The exhibition is organizedby the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore. Museum of the Opera at 6pm.

Mon. 16th: Opening of the Week of Interdisciplinary Studies on "The Cathedral andthe city: Santa Maria del Fiore in its context", organized by the Opera of SantaMaria del Fiore. Palazzo Vecchio, Hall of the Five Hundred, and (from theafternoon onwards), the Auditorium, Presidence of the Regional Council, ViaCavour 5. 9.30am-1pm/3-6.30pm.

Tues. 17th: Second day of the Week of Interdisciplinary Studies, Via Cavour 5, asabove.

Demonstration of the Gnomon in the Duomo, at 12.00 solar time (summer equinox).
Date and place to be defined: Inauguration of "For a new choir in Santa Maria delFiore: Botta, Brenner, Gabetti and Isola, Graves, Hollein, Isosaki, Nouvel,Rossi", an exhibition of architecture organized by the Arch-diocese of Florence.

Tues. 24th: Feast of St. John the Baptist.
Concert in the Duomo at 9pm.
Firework display at 10pm.


SEPTEMBER

Fri. 5th: Inauguration of the exhibition on "The illustrated choir books of SantaMaria del Fiore", Laurentian Library.

Mon. 8th: Official closure of the Seventh Centenary.
